Yes, there is provision for a hold-down clamp on Offenhauser aluminum heads for the 1949-53 Ford flathead V8. The cylinder heads are designed so that the factory-style distributor hold-down bracket can be used. If your factory hold-down doesn’t fit properly, sometimes there may be a small amount of excess casting material on the head where the bracket sits. In that case, it is acceptable to carefully file or machine that area for proper fitment. The bolt hole for the clamp is threaded and tapped at the correct size to accept the original hardware.
So, for installation, you simply use the factory hold-down clamp and bolt. If there is any interference or the bracket doesn’t seat fully, a little bit of filing at the edge of the head may be necessary for clearance. Otherwise, no special or proprietary clamp is needed—just the standard Ford OEM distributor hold-down for 1949-53 flatheads.
I just cut about 1/4 off the back (rounded area) of my stock clamp so it would clear the head and it worked out perfectly. good luck..
