Just spoke on the phone with you. Normally, there should not be any clearance issues regarding the column shift mechanism and the cylinder head. That being said, thing can get “out of wack” over 70 years. Double check all the bushing to make sure the linkage is where it needs to be. Below is the breakdown of the shifting components.
